Summer Birthday Party Themes

Summertime and the livins’ easy, and so are summer birthday parties. Summer birthday parties are budget friendly for parents because birthday party locations can be the backyard, local park or community pool. The weather usually cooperates, and the kids don’t have school or homework. Everyone can relax and have a fun time. Here are a few summer birthday party ideas.

1. Pool Party or Slip-n-Slide

This cute summer birthday theme is a classic. If you have a pool, great! Have the birthday party in your backyard. No pool, no worries. Check into hosting the birthday party at the neighborhood pool, maybe a relative’s house or even a city pool. If all of those options are a no go, think about splash pads or a slip-n-slide.

2. Water Balloons, Squirt Guns & Sno Cones

Maybe pool parties aren’t your jam for a summer birthday party. A cute summer birthday theme for younger kids is water balloons and squirt guns. This summer party idea still gives kids a chance to cool off from the heat, but you don’t have to worry about them in the pool. An added surprise would be to have the local sno cone or ice cream truck stop by for a cool treat!

3. Backyard Campout, Movie & S’mores

Another way to beat the heat is to schedule the summer birthday party after the sun goes down. Plan a backyard campout party. The kids may or may not spend the night, but they can watch a movie and make s’mores while sitting in tents or on blankets.

4. Luau & Hula Dancing

Nothing says summer like a Hawaiian luau. This is another summer birthday theme for the backyard or local park. Consider having grass skirts for the guests and fun fruit drinks with the tiny umbrellas. A unique summer party activity would be hula dancing. Often you can find local performers who will give lessons as birthday party entertainment. Everyone gets a chance to shake their hips and try to hula.

5. Baseball Bash

A summer birthday classic is a baseball themed party. If a baseball theme or mini game won’t fit in your backyard, check for space at one of the local parks or indoor baseball facilities in your area. Host your own baseball game or watch your favorite baseball team play a game - a combination of the backyard campout and baseball party. For this summer party idea, make sure to have the classics - hot dogs, cracker jacks and peanuts.

For teens, consider a glow in the dark party with glow sticks, glow in the dark clothes and chalk. Another fun teen idea is a team scavenger hunt through the neighborhood.

And if it’s just your child’s best friend, you might consider splurging a little and going to an amusement park, water park or the beach!
