High school graduation parties are right around the corner. Now is the time to start shopping for the perfect graduation gift. For many high school graduates, moving to college is the first time they will be living on their own. And whether they are moving into the dorm or an apartment, every college student needs a few basic things. Graduation gift shopping doesn’t need to be stressful or overwhelming, think basic things that fit into a small space!
1. Cash/Gift Cards
What college kid doesn’t love cash! Moving away from home means the high school graduate will need new items for their dorm or apartment. And move in day might be the first time they see the space so last minute shopping is a must! If you don’t feel comfortable just giving cash, consider a gift card to Target, Wal-Mart or Amazon. They’ll be able to get almost anything they need from one of those retailers.
2. Backpacks
A quality, durable backpack is an essential for every college student! Yes, they can take it to class, but it can also be used to pack their clothes and items for a weekend visit home or road trip. And who hasn’t stuffed dirty laundry in their backpack to take it down to wash. Honestly, I felt like I lived out of my backpack when I was in college.
3. Small Coffee Maker
Your high school graduate may not love coffee right now, but they will soon grow to love it. Late night study groups, early morning classes and the occasional party will lead your new college student to caffeine. A small coffee maker is ideal for a dorm or apartment. If you’re still not sure that they’ll love it, opt for a personalized water bottle or travel coffee cup.
4. Organizational Items
College students are moving into a small space and some are sharing that space with roommates. Organization is key! Think baskets, bins and items that can be slid under a bed or stacked in a closet. A hanging toiletries bag or maybe even a small shelving unit. These may not be the most exciting gifts, but they are some of the most useful. And if you give a high school graduate these, they don’t have to spend their own money on it!
5. College Apparel
Every college student loves to show their school spirit and represent their school. Even if it’s just a t-shirt for hanging around the dorms. A favorite item is anything that shows their college pride.
