5 Socially Distanced Birthday Party Ideas for Kids

Most kid’s birthday parties came to a screeching halt last year during the pandemic. It was the year of drive-by birthday parades and virtual parties. Now, as we are slowly returning to normal, so is planning a birthday party! However, many parents are looking for safe ways to celebrate their kid’s birthday. Here is our top five list of the best socially distanced birthday party ideas for kids.

1. Water Gun Fights

Gather a few friends and fill up buckets, tubs or coolers with water and let the battle begin. Give each attendee their own water gun (assign everyone a different color to avoid any mixups). Kids are outside, running away from each other and having fun!

2. Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt

A neighborhood scavenger hunt could be accomplished several ways. Guests could work in pairs, eliminating a large group or everyone is on their own. Clues could be hidden in attendees yards or just around the neighborhood. For younger kiddos, they could work with parents to find a list of items or letters.

3. Outdoor Movies

Create a movie screen on your garage door or hang a sheet in the backyard. Place hula hoops around your yard, creating socially distanced areas for attendees to sit in. Or if you want to get creative, use old boxes to create cars for smaller children.

4. Picnic Birthday Party

Maybe a movie isn’t your thing. Try an outdoor painting or chalk birthday party. Again, create socially distanced areas by placing hula hoops around the yard or driveway. Create small art kits for each attendee so supplies are not shared.

5. Sports Birthday Parties

Many sports require minimal contact (but there may be some contact so make sure your guests are comfortable). A game of soccer, Wiffle ball or even putt putt golf provide kids with a socially distanced birthday party.

As always, check the latest CDC guidelines, regarding safety protocol.
